Earlier in September, almost 100 participants swarmed the paddle courts at Elysium Tennis, a new four-court platform tennis facility in Columbus, Ohio. The advent of this facility was helped along by the “Grow the Game Initiative” of the APTA.

The weekend started with 20 players taking to the courts for three hours of play on Friday evening. Saturday began with some of the best teaching pros in paddle leading 25 juniors through a clinic. The pros included Denny English, Brian Heil, Nathan LeFevre, and Mark Tarentino. Next, two adult clinics brought many new players to the game.

The clinics provided an opportunity for participants to try new Viking paddles (due to Viking’s generous support), learn technique and strategy, and explore all aspects of the game.

The evening concluded with an all-star exhibition by nationally-ranked players—Rob Bakker, English, Heil, and Lefevre. A large crowd gathered to watch the phenomenal and amazing talents featured during many points of the exhibition, despite the ill-fated timing of the Ohio State Football game.

A big thank you to the APTA and Viking for their continued support of the clinics and exhibitions program.
