Peachtree Platform Tennis Clinic & Exhibition

Current and two time National Platform Tennis Champion Brian Uihlein, along with seven time National Champion Scott Mansager, traveled from Chicago to Atlanta to help kick off a new season of platform tennis, a popular and growing racquet sport in Atlanta and around the south. Joined by Rod Workman, PPTA President Mike Rahaly and APTA President Mark Fischl, they headlined a November 1 Exhibition and Clinic at the new Cherokee Town Club platform tennis venue. The event was hosted by the Peachtree Paddle League and sponsored by the APTA, Wilson and 11 other league sponsors.

Peter Lauer, Founder and Director of the PPL remarked “This is our 4th season of play for the League, which started from very modest beginnings on 2 old courts. Today we have 5 courts with more on the way, hundreds of players, the exhibition, a tournament in January, a season finale at the end of February, videos & great enthusiasm, especially among the AA1 caliber tennis players in town. Platform Tennis is proving to be very attractive to tennis players in Atlanta due to the strategy, fast hands, fast feet, and incredible endurance required.”

Teaching the Teachers

“We’ve converted guys like Andre Janasik, John Winter, J. Laschinger, Michael Rollauer, Berni Staub and Mark Schmidt, as well as a broad group of average tennis players. We also keep finding the Yankee transplants who are here, as we continue to get the word out about paddle. Anyone at any level can join the Peachtree Paddle League. You sign into pre-scheduled matches via the website (www.peachtreepaddle.org) and play when you can, with 16 matches at all levels available throughout the week at night, and on weekends. This year we’ve expanded to 6 teams from Cherokee, Druid Hills, Ansley, PDC, Sandy Springs and Capital City. I encourage everyone to come try this great sport. You’ll like it. It’s all for fun. And don’t miss the ‘Whale Bar’ when selecting matches at Steve Gareleck’s private court in Sandy Springs!”

We challenge top players to come for this year’s Peachtree Invitational January 17 & 18. We received National Ranking Tournament status this year so you just might see Brian Uihlein playing!

On November 1, 2008, the Peachtree Paddle League , the APTA, Wilson Sporting Goods and others proudly sponsor a free exhibition and clinic at the beautiful new Cherokee Town Club venue in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA. This event is one of a series of clinics and exhibitions sponsored by the APTA.

The afternoon will include adult and junior clinics, raffles including new Wilson paddles, drinks, a DJ and masterful exhibitions by the best players in the world.   

Headlining the exhibitions will be last year's national champ Brian Uihlein and 6 time former national champ Scott Mansager. Brian and Scott will be joined by Rod Workman and Mike Rahaley, teaching pros from Chicago. APTA President Mark Fischl will also be on hand for the day of playing, teaching and fun.
