Six Grants Awarded

MAY 11, 2011
PHILADELPHIA, PA

2011-APTA-Grants-275The APTA Board of Directors is pleased to report that it unanimously approved six new grants totaling $65,000 for public access platform tennis programs around the country.

This funding is part of the APTA’s “Grow the Sport” initiative. Formally launched three years ago, the intent of this program is to financially assist local platform tennis communities and project champions. Their needs may include building courts, improving playing facilities, or starting or enhancing programs and leagues.

Growth Committee Chairman Peter Lauer noted that they have received more than 70 inquiries from around the country and abroad and that this year’s six grants represent a doubling in both number and dollars from the prior year.  The committee will continue to seek and foster additional projects and work with the local champions to help ensure the success of their programs.

Congratulations to the following six grantees (and their proposers):

Charleston, South Carolina (Jerry Albrikes)
Kansas City, Kansas (Chace Brundige)
Northbrook, Illinois (Dan Niswonger)
Pine Manor, Massachusetts (Jeff Ward)
Scituate, Massachusetts (Bill Horne)
Stonington, Connecticut (Russ Burgess)

If you are a local organizer or player with a project in mind, please contact the Growth Committee.
