League News and Notes-End of Season Playoffs

Many of the APTA leagues around the country finished their seasons in late February and March with playoffs. Here is a sampling of playoff results and final league standings. League play will continue on April 1-2 at the first APTA National League Championships.

Greater Boston Platform Tennis Association Men’s League:
C Division: The Country Club won the regular season and defeated Dedham in the playoffs.
B- Division: Winchester won the regular season and opted to play in the B1 playoffs. Brae Burn won the B2 playoff, defeating Wellesley.
B+ Division: Concord won the regular season and defeated The Country Club in the playoffs.
A-Division: Eastern Yacht won the regular season; playoffs start next week.
A+ Division: The Country Club won the regular season; playoffs start next week.
Peachtree Paddle League (Atlanta):
Men’s: Bitsy Green defeated Bitsy White in the championship match. The finals and determining match came down to a third set tiebreaker!
Women’s: Bitsy White made it a clean sweep, winning the regular season title and defeating Bitsy Green in the tournament championship match.
Cincinnati Platform Tennis League:
Although not a league playoff, Cincinnati yearly hosts a championship for the it’s paddle players, which was renamed the Herzel Cup in 2012, honoring the memory of Rob Herzel. In this year’s tournament, Tyler Fraser and Luke White defeated Ryan Floth and Thaddeus Reed in the finals. Although predominantly a men’s tournament, Heather Prop joined in the competition this year, winning the quarterfinal reprieve with Brad Pierce.

MAPTA:
Men’s D1: Philly Cricket def. Waynesborough in playoff tournament, but Waynesborough were the season champions.

Western Pennsylvania Platform Tennis Association
The D1 playoffs went according to script with the top four regular season teams in the standings meeting in the semifinals. The two North Park teams won and played each other in the finals, with North Park 1 coming out on top.
