Platform Tennis is Alive and Well in The Villages

October 23 marked the grand opening of the Rohan Recreational Center, where six new ground-level courts were recently installed to give this Florida community a total of 18. Dozen of residents tried their hand at this “new” game during the inaugural Free Lesson Day. Russ Jones led the charge with help from Joe Russo and other longtime players of the game.

APTA Hall of Famer Hank Irvine has been instrumental to the expansion of the sport in The Villages. He stopped by the SeaBreeze Rec Center on Oct. 28-29 to hold his fourth class for three more volunteer certified instructors, who passed a written test and proved themselves on the court to gain certification. Congratulations to Rich Mayoras, Laurie Smith, and George Smith!
