2020 Columbus Women's Open Final Results (doc) (pdf)

By Brian Heil

The inaugural year for the Women’s Columbus Open as an NRT went great! The weather was a perfect mix of clouds and light snow and made for a great day of paddle. Local players mixed in with participants from Cleveland, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Chicago, with 16 teams battling throughout the day to see who would take home the title. In the end it was the local team and top seed Amy Heil and Alice Tunaru who prevailed.

Heil/Tunaru and second seeds Vicky Brown and Janet Mazzola went relatively untested through to the semis where they battled against a pair of Columbus teams in Anneliese Adkinson and Wendy Mikola and Dori Easdale and Jill Gilbert but ultimately the seeds prevailed in straight sets.

Thanks to our sponsors Crest Retirement and Shadetree and to Rich Ihlendorf as always for providing the wine and beer for the event! This year’s lunch was held in the banquet room at the beautiful Brookside Country Club and matches were played at Brookside and Worthington Hills in addition to Elysium so thanks to all clubs for their hospitality. Thank you to all Elysium staff for helping to make the tournament run so smoothly.

Hoping to all again next year and to make it bigger and better than ever. Good luck the rest of the season and at Nationals!

The APTA would like to thank Tournament Director Brian Heil for running an excellent event.
