2014 Olde Providence Finalist and WinnersThe first-ever APTA-sanctioned PCQ tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, was held Saturday, December 13th at Olde Providence Racquet Club.

The inaugural Olde Providence Paddle Classic had a full draw of 16 teams and the weather was perfect. Tournament participants came from Chapel Hill, NC; Winston-Salem, NC; Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; and Charleston, SC.

The winners were Randy Lofgren and Nathan Crick who defeated Steven Meyer and 2010 National Champion Jerry Albrikes in three highly-entertaining sets, 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-2. This is Randy Lofgren’s third straight Region VII tournament title with three different partners. Paddle is really taking off in Charlotte and all through the South. I would like to thank sponsors Cape Cod Potato Chips, Dynamic Health & Pain Management, and Good Bottle for making the tournament possible. Can’t wait for next year’s tournament!

Olde Providence Racquet Club thanks the APTA for a grant in May of 2013 that made it possible to build our two courts. And the APTA thanks Zen Mottershead for running the tournament and all his effort getting Region VII way into the game!
