The rain stayed away this year as 53 teams competed in the Lagunitas Open over four days of competition. With players visiting from all over the country, the club witnessed some of the best camaraderie and paddle it has ever seen.

WOMEN'S A

The Women's A draw was filled with talent. Top seeds Macie Elliott and Marcela Rodezno cruised to the finals after a win over Katie Comstock and Wendy Shpiz in the semis. In the other semi, Lagunitas’ own Tori Eichleay with partner Jill Eisenhart ended up losing a three-set battle to Lucy Nutting and Hall-of-Famer Cindy Prendergast. The final was a back-and-forth battle that concluded with a 7-5 score in the third win for the Connecticut duo. This was Elliott/Rodezno’s first NRT win together!

MEN'S A: Elliott/Rodezno and Bredberg/Mayes Earn Ws in Lagunitas As

With a combination of local teams and traveling teams, 13 teams battled for the A title. AJ Rohde and Juan Jaysingh had two great wins on their way to the finals after beating Chris Adams and Matt Warner in the quarters and then outlasting second seeds Harry DeMott and Max LePivert in a three-set semi. The other top seed, tournament director duo Sebastian Bredberg and Tom Mayes won a hard-fought semi against Bobby Devens and Tommy Darling. The final featured a lot of action with Bredberg/Mayes ending up victorious with a straight set win.

WOMEN'S B: Shewey/Robbins and Hunt/Mcnay Win Bs

The women's B draw was full with 16 teams battling for the title. In the end the top two seeds Pollie Robbins and Collin Shewey and Kris Klein with partner Karen Van Brunt made their way to the finals. The first set was a battle but then Robbins/Shewey proved to be the stronger team with a 7-5, 6-0 win. Mother-daughter team Marjorie and Mallory Surpless repeated as the consolation winners.

MEN'S B

The top seeds went out early of the Men’s B, which opened up for some very exciting matches. Both semis were well contested with Chris Hunt and Colin Mcnay outlasting Collin Greenspon and Chris Heller in one semi and Jon Gruber with partner Henry Hagenbuch winning two close sets against Joe Gibson and Michael Short. The finals gathered a large crowd and they were not disappointed. After splitting sets, the duo of Chris Hunt and Colin Mcnay proved to be too strong and won the third set with a 6-3 margin.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists. A huge shout out to the Paddle Committee at Lagunitas Country Club for organizing a great tournament and a special thanks to Tori Eichleay and Tom Mayes for co-chairing the event. Also, a thank you to Tucky Pogue for her efforts to organize housing to all the out-of-town teams visiting. We hope to see many of you come back again next year!
