2020 Long Island Women's Grand Prix Final Results (doc) (pdf)

Hall of Famer Patty Hogan picked Lauren Gebbia and Kerri Delmonico to win the Long Island Women’s Invitational Grand Prix in straight sets before the tournament even began. She was spot on. There were plenty of chances for other teams to take the title away from them. Their quarterfinal match against Roxy Enica and Martina Ondjrekova went three sets. But it was the semifinal matchup against Macie Elliott and Marcela Rodezno that looked like it would be their undoing. Elliott/Rodezno won the first set in a tiebreaker but Delmonico/Gebbia dominated the second set. The third was a back-and-forth affair, with Elliott/Rodezno up at 5-4 but unable to hold serve. The teams went to a tiebreaker—Gebbia and Delmonico had more staying power to grind out the long points.

The other finalists, Florentina Hanisch and Ana Marija Zubori, only gave up 10 games on their way to the final. It drizzled through much of that match, and as Delmonico said in the post-match interview, “Rain was an equalizer. They were not able to hit the cut shots that hurt us in Darien. We lobbed well, and I told Lauren to swing away. Also, we are more fit than we were in the beginning of the year. If you are fit, you have the ability to stay mentally tougher.”

Gebbia added, “We had fun tonight.”

Kerri Delmonico has now won the Long Island Invitational in two decades, with five titles (two with Gebbia) since 2010.

Thank you to Tournament Director Tim Mangan, host club Huntington Country Club, Nassau Country Club, the volunteers, and the players for a wonderful event.
