Cleveland Masters Teams Up with APTA Clinic

Last weekend’s events in Cleveland started with a free APTA Clinic & Exhibition. Friday’s night’s clinics brought out more than 25 new faces, as well as many tournament and social players.

Good natured ribbing and serious pointers were distributed during the 3 hours of clinics, as well as goodies from the barbecue. Following the clinics, pros Juan Martinez Arraya, Patricio Misitrano, Denny English and Brian Heil displayed their skills for the crowd to enjoy.

Saturday was a gorgeous sunny day; great for the spectators but a bit more challenging for the players. After hours of play, the 4 players left standing in the Men’s draw were the clinic pros Juan, Patricio, Denny and Brian.

Juan and Patricio prevailed in a tense power-laden three setter. That makes it back to back winning weekends for Juan (he and partner Alex Bancila took the coveted Chicago Charities title). Can he go for 3? Check next week to see the results of Sound Shore.

The Women’s Final was set with Region 4 President’s Cup teammates, Jessica Guyaux, Kelly Fischer, Ann Turner and local favorite Janet Mazzola. Sunday’s weather was a bit more paddle friendly with grey skies predominating. Pittsburghers Jessica and Kelly won in two sets.
