Tommy Croker and Casey MacMaster Tops at Games on the James NRT

Tournament Director Rob Oakes wrote: “This year’s Games on the James NRT was one unlike any other. An eight-team “qualifying” tournament on Friday night was added at the last minute to adhere to new state guidelines on group gathering size. The two teams surviving (their competitors and the rain) and advancing to Saturday’s main draw were Neville Brodie and Moutray McLaren and Clint Greene and John Snead.

“The level of play in the main draw this year was extremely high, attracting elite players from Richmond, Region VII, and well beyond. Despite strong challenges, especially from defending GOTJ champions and host club professionals Matt Hane and Hunter Koontz in the semifinals, the final match was the showdown everyone was expecting between top-seeded teams Tommy Croker and Casey MacMaster and Guga Goncalves and Ned Mandel. Even though Covid-19 limited the spectators, those in attendance were treated to an entertaining encounter, with Croker/MacMaster prevailing 6-4, 6-1, to claim the title.
