2011 Lagunitas CC Invitational

All kinds of records! It was the first time in about 7 years that we had a clear weather weekend. It has been uncanny and a bit unlucky that it seems to rain every year on the Friday of the tourney. But not this year - and “Ladies Flight” Last Chance winner Sarah Puckett claims the credit as it was her first time participating. We hope she plays for many years to come if that is the case.

Tournament Directors Christi Hays and Tom Mayes were pleased with the largest turnout in many years - 20 women’s teams and 27 men’s teams. Players came from Pittsburgh, Chicago, Hinsdale, Idaho, Denver- and all over California- South Bay and NorCal.

The winners on the Men’s “Championship Flight” Tom Mayes and Will Lyon were thrilled to be back in the winner’s circle after being dethroned last year. And on the women’s side we had a new winner Tori Eichleay and a familiar name - Wendy Shpiz. Wendy has won 4 out of the last 5 years with 3 different partners - Val Herzog, Christi Hays twice and now Tori Eichleay. Clearly there is a common denominator. And we were thrilled to welcome back perennial finalists Linda Hoch and Sara Williams who have graced our tournament so many years we have lost count - we think it is about 14 or so!

It was an outstanding weekend - and we hope more APTA paddle players will visit us next year to experience the Lagunitas/California paddle scene.
